Growing cherry tomatoes at home

Maintaining cherry tomatoes is equally easy but if not taken  care of it may become be a complex process at some point in time.

Obtain seeds or seedlings

Growing cherry tomatoes from a seedling will be a much faster process than growing from seeds. You can purchase the seedlings of cherry tomatoes from your nearby nursery. If seedlings are not available then growing from seeds can be an alternative.

Growing cherry tomato in pots at home

If you’re considering growing cherry tomatoes at home you can choose amongst various container sizes. A pot or bucket that holds up to 4 to 6 gallons is considered idle. Growing in pots is a perfect idea as it requires a lot less space and can be easily managed at home.

Choosing the right location

Cherry tomatoes require a lot of sunlight for their growth. A location with at least eight hours of direct sunlight will be considered idle. Make sure that the plant is not shaded by other plants. If the plant does not receive enough sunlight then it won’t produce good fruit.

Type of soil to choose

A mix or fertile soil will work just fine. Make sure that when you buy the fertile soil all the dirt that it has been completely removed. One way to check this fertility of the soil is that fertile soil is usually darker and will crumble when held in hand.

Steps to grow cherry tomatoes-

• Begin planting in warm weather. Cherry tomatoes need warm weather to grow a temperature of 21° celsius would be perfect for planting the seedlings.
• Make sure that the pot has proper drainage
• When planting in pot, the pot must have holes at the bottom of it for proper drainage. This will prevent the plant from waterlogging and rotting with extra water.
• Fill in the potting mix and pour in the potting mix into the container and mix it until the soil is evenly moist.
• Dig in a small hole into the potting mix or the soil. It is very necessary to dig a small hole in the center of the soil for the plant to get a proper oxygen supply.

Maintenance of the plant-

• Water the plants regularly after every 2 to 3 days.
• Fertilizing plants once a week is essential for a plant to get proper nutrition.
• Once the plant has grown bigger, consider pruning it.
• Avoid pests, diseases, and other fungus problems for the plant.
• The seedling will begin to appear in about a month and the whole cherry tomato plant will harvest in about 6 to 8 weeks.
• Do not pull a twist to the wine to pick a tomato. These tomatoes tend to come out of this time is very easy.
